This is not the Southern Rock Copperhead of the 90's, this version of Copperhead was formed by lead guitarist John Cipollina two and a half years after exiting Quicksilver Messenger Service. In 1972 the band was signed to a major-label record deal by Clive Davis at Columbia, releasing its debut album in the spring of 1973. Unfortunately, Davis was fired from Columbia for allegedly using company funds to bankroll his son's bar mitzvah [absolutely true story] shortly after the album's release, and the album languished in Robscurity. Copperhead was snake-bit again when Columbia refused to release their second album, resulting in Copperhead's demise. Stand out tunes include Roller Derby Star, Pawnshop Man, and Wing-Dang-Doo.
Clive Davis shortly before his firing thinking 'Now that I've signed Copperhead, I can get my boy that totally rad new Schwinn.'
