Man, look at those album covers. Between Cirith Ungol and Molly Hatchet, the coolest covers around! According to an internet search each studio album's cover art is taken from the cover of a DAW Books edition of a book in Michael Moorcock's Elric of Melniboné saga; the art is by Michael Whelan. I first heard Cirith Ungol on the first Metal Massacre album (Man what a fantastic album!) that featured Death Of The Sun. My first impression was - What's with this dude's voice? Tim Baker's vocals are unusual to say the least, and do take a bit of getting used to, but they fit the band's music perfectly. Fantasy speed metal with a touch of doom describes them pretty well. The name Cirith Ungol is taken from J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings and means "Pass of the Spider". It was a high pass in the land of Mordor where the monster known as Shelob lurked.
The correct way of pronouncing the name Cirith Ungol is kee'reeth oo'ngol, but the band pronounces it Throat Wambler Mangrove.
