Granicus was an American hard rock band formed in 1969 in Cleveland, Ohio, who were clearly influenced by such bands as  Blue Cheer, Cactus, Cream and Zeppelin.  The GRANICUS sound contains elements of psych, blues, early heavy metal, and a smattering of organ, all blended together to form what some refer to as 'proto-metal'.  Granicus' lead vocalist Woody Leffel sometimes sings in a high-pitched voice similar to Robert Plant, Ian Gillan and Geddy Lee, but nonetheless has a style all his own.  Did I mention they were from Cleveland?  They obviously didn't like it too much - as the chorus of their song Cleveland Ohio states:  "I'm getting out of Cleveland, Ohio"!

Granicus was a river in modern day Turkey and the site of a major battle between Alexander the Great and the Persians in 334 BC.  An actual photograph from the battle attributed to Col. Franklin Mint is pictured at right
