There have been several bands named Martyr, this particular Martyr was from The Netherlands, existed from 1982-1987, and played classic metal with strong melodies and technical, speedy riffs.  They released two albums during that span - ‘For The Universe’ (1985) and ‘Darkness At Time’s Edge’ (1986), as well as the track "En Masse (Stand Or Die)", which appeared on the compilation album "Metal Massacre VI".

The debut album "For The Universe" is still considered a classic in the knowledegable heavy metal world, with the website "Encyclopaedia Metallum: The Metal Archives" describing the album this way, "Martyr's songwriting is vastly superior to most of its competitors". In 2014, the group was honored by the "Dutch Steel (80's Metal From The Netherlands)" collector for Martyr's contribution to Dutch heavy metal history.
