Dirty Tricks exemplified 70's rock - Stand out vocals by Kenny Stewart and outstanding guitarwork by John Frasier Binnie abound in the band's three albums, which were obviously inspired by the usual 70's masters - Purple, Sabbath (More on that later), Mountain, etc. Too Much Wine is a favorite, but it's curious that it and Wait Till Saturday were on both the debut and the Night Man albums. Post Dirty Tricks, drummer Andy Bierne, who took over drums in 76, joined Grand Prix, Terry Horbury became a member of Vardis, and John Fraser Binnie joined the band Rogue Male. Perhaps the most interesting thing to happen to the ex-members, however, was that all of them, except singer Kenny Stewart, were the original backing band for, get this, Ozzy Osbourne! After Ozzy quit Sabbath following Technical Ecstasy, the collaboration with Dity tricks began. In the "Sounds Magazine" from January 21, 1978, Ozzy says in an interview: "I´ve got some people from Dirty Tricks, guitarist Johnny Fraser-Binnie and bass player Terry Horbury. I´ve got a few drummers in mind, but no one definite yet (it was Andy Beirne at least - ed.) All three of us write... I wanna have some material by the end of month and go on the road by November of this year. I want the music to be more earthy than what Sabbath was doing at the end, more like what I´m used to playing. I want it to sound like what I want it to sound like. It´ll be heavy alright, spooky." After some time of song writing and rehearsals, Ozzy changed his mind and decided to join Black Sabbath again, thus ending his association with the band.
As Paul Harvey would say, Now you know the rest of the story.
