Who was Random Black? Good question. Not too much info exists on this NWOBHM band, but here is what we do know. They recorded 3 demos, and contributed 1 track to the Metal Warriors CD. (I still haven't been able to find a copy of the first demo) The band intended to release a CD with the Greek label ''Obscure NWOBHM Releases'' but it was never officially finalized or released prior to their disbandment. Or was it? Apparently some CDR's exist, but I haven't been able to find it either. In any event, Demo 2 is killer! Witch Daughter is an awesome track. Wish I could here more from them!
UPDATE
Apparently the Under The Cross compilation does exist, as it was issued by High Roller Records in 2020. Hallelujah!

Supposedly everything the band ever recorded is included here - 3 demos, the single Ophelia, and some other material that Kirkman reworked together with former Bitches Sin singer Tony Tomkinson. (Not sure exactly which tunes these are). Well, Robscurities believes there is at least one recording by the band that is not included, and that is the song Under The Cross. In an interview with guitarist Mark Kirkman (MANIC MOSH METAL #12 May - September 2020) he states: We arrived in Hull’s Ebony Studios for two days of recording in March 1983. The material recorded featured Don Dibbens on vocals, George Palmer on bass, John Blandford on drums, Mark Kirkman and Ray Frost on guitar. We recorded two songs, ‘Ophelia’ and ‘Under The Cross’ but due to a technical issue ‘Under The Cross’ (which was by far a better track, in my opinion) wasn’t used. It’s probably on a NWOBHM compilation album that Ebony released in Holland or something, ensuring that we didn’t get any royalties; I might be wrong, but it seemed that was de rigueur at the time by the record companies that were releasing our sort of music.

DO I EXIST? YES!!
UPDATE
Thanks to our #1 fan, Ms. Fannie Mae Titwiller we have learned that Random Black has made several un-credited appearances on Television.
An early version of the band appeared on the sitcom Gilligan's Island as the fictional band The Mosquitos.
