Was Steeler an obscure band?  That's a good question.  The band would eventually morph into the semi-well known band Keel, but before that the band started out under the name Steeler.  Founded by Ron Keel in the early eighties, the original incarnation of the group contributed a track on the legendary Metal Massacre album (The one that featured Metallica, Ratt, and Malice, among others).  By the time it came to record their self titled debut album, however, the band had changed the lead guitarist, the drummer and the bassist.  That new lead guitarist, who arrived from Sweden on a work visa, recorded that one album, played 9 shows in a span of about 4 months before leaving Steeler to join a band named Alcatrazz.  Yep, you guessed it, that guy was the one and only 19 year old Yngwie Malmsteen.   That fact alone may negate Steeler's status as obscure, but what the hell, not everybody knows he was in the band.  So how was the album?  The following excerpt sums it up perfectly.  Metal Forces magazine editor, Bernard Doe, stated "Not a classic album by any means. In fact, if it wasn’t for Yngwie’s talents then this would be just plain average. But, buy this album as it will surely become a collector’s item in the years to come when Malmsteen is recognised as one of the world’s greatest all-time heavy metal guitarists."  I'll second that - an average to below average album with superb lead guitar.

I'll drink to that!
