NWOBHM DOOM STYLE!
Pagan Altar was formed in 1978 in London, England by, of all things, a father and son duo! Yes, that's right, Terry and Alan Jones, who are father and son, respectively, formed this heavy NWOBHM doomy, somewhat proggy, somewhat melodic, somewhat Sabbath inspired metal band.
The band's stage show was reportedly a sight to behold, with a large Sorcerer's head looming over an altar topped with a large inverted cross, skulls and black candles. To top it off, the band would come on stage emerging from fog in cloaks while a Gregorian chant played. Quite the spectacle I'm sure.
Their only 'album' released during this era (They did reform later on) was an independent, self-released, self-titled demo album (which was heavily bootlegged in later years). The demo would be re-released as an official full-length album on Oracle Records in 1998, re-titled "Volume 1", and then released again as Judgement Of The Dead.
