Back in the seventies there was once a style of rock referred to as arena rock, fueled by such groups as Styx, Journey, Queen, & Rainbow that featured, among many things, (not much in some peoples eyes,) great vocal harmonies.  Well the band Cain definitely fit into that category too, as vocal extrordinairist ( just made that word up) Jiggs Lee and the boys offer up A Pound Of Flesh and then a Stinger, two albums of AOR, or whatever the hell you wanna call it, that probably shoulda had these guys being major players in that scene.

Their first, A Pound Of Flesh, released in 1975, was the better of the two IMHO.  Their second effort, Stinger (1977), was decent, but not as strong as the debut. Ole Jiggs Lee could belt it out though, reminding me of David Byron (Uriah Heep) at times with great range.  He could scream, sing, croon and those Queen-ish harmonies went well with the crunchy and wailing leads of Lloyd Forsberg, who I wish woulda been a little more prominent on these recordings, as the dude could rip it up.

Unfortunately, the band suffered from a bit of an identity crisis at times -  they didn’t seem to know which direction to take, and this ultimately hurt them IMHO.  The formula on songs like Queen Of The Night, off their first, was definitely the direction they should have gone, as this tune stands up to anything that came out during that time.  Give these guys a shot when you’re hungry for some flesh!
