GOGMAGOG
Gogmagog is apparently an old English/Welsh folklore term that means Embarrassingly bad NWOBHM super-group, because that is what we have here. The brain child of record producer Jonathan King, he was hoping that assembling some well-known NWOBHM heavyweights together would result in a huge $$$$$$. After failing to secure David Coverdale, John Entwistle and Cozy Powell, King was able to con Paul Dianno and Clive Burr (Iron Maiden), Pete Willis (Def Leppard), Janick Gers (Maiden & White Spirit) an Neil Murray (Gary Moore & Whitesnake) to
be in his NWOBHM version of the Monkees. Had these musicians got together on their own, they may have produced some great music - instead the only output from the band (who never played live) is this totally pathetic 3 track EP of pure crap. Just like the Monkees, the band was not allowed to write any of their own music, and it shows. Two of the songs were written by producer King ("Living in a F**king Time Warp" and "It’s Illegal, It’s Immoral, It’s Unhealthy, But It’s Fun"), with the title track being composed by longtime KISS collaborator Russ Ballard, and originally released on his 1981 solo album Into the Fire. Paul Dianno summed it up best when he said that he hated the finished product and that he "only did it for the money".
