Target was a five piece Southern rock band from Memphis, Tennessee, consisting of vocalist Jimi Jamison, guitarist Paul Cannon, keyboardist Buddy Davis, bassist Tommy Cathey and drummer David Spain.  Like many bands during the 70's, Target built up their reputation and their catalogue of southern inspired rock (think Blackfoot and possibly Doc Holliday) by playing live constantly.   They were eventually signed by A&M records and issued their first album self-titled Target in 1976.  Despite being a fine platter of rock, sales were lackluster.  Their second album (Captured, 1977), was even better, and despite opening for mega stars BOSTON, SABBATH and KISS, Target's label were unimpressed by the sales figures (go figure) and dropped Target from their roster.  After Target disbanded. singer Jimi Jamison went on to be the lead singer for, of all bands, SURVIVOR!  (Yes, The Eye of The Tiger, Arena Rock Titans, Survivor)

 

A third album (IN RANGE), was recorded in 1979, and subsequently released in 2017.

In addition, a split album with Foghat was issued in 1977.  Side 1 was from the Foghat Live album and side 2 featured 5 songs from Target's captured album.  Clearly a cash grab by the record company!
