Hurricane was formed in 1984 by Guitarist Robert Sarzo, and Bassist Tony Cavazo, of Quiet Riot fame. The pair were introduced to each other by the late Quiet Riot frontman, Kevin DuBrow, who suggested they put a band together, which they did by rounding out the lineup with singer Kelly Hansen and drummer Jay Schellen. Garnering little label interest, Hurricane decided to do the old fashioned NWOBHM tactic of releasing an album themselves. In support of this album, 'Take What You Want', the band opened for
Christian metal band Stryper on their To Hell with the Devil tour, which in turn led them to be signed by Stryper's label, Enigma Records. In 1988, the band released their major label debut album, Over the Edge. In 1989, Sarzo left the group and was replaced by ex-Lion guitarist, Doug Aldrich. This lineup recorded the album Slave to the Thrill, which was released in 1990.
