Ah. Mendes Prey - Cool band, Cool name, and unfortunately another NWOBHM band that should have made it, but didn't. However, they were probably the only Obscure NWOBHM group to have their song (more accurately part of it), in an actual radio commercial. What the hell's going on was used in a Levi's ad, believe it or not!
Mendes Prey definitely had a varied style and flair, which enabled them to sound like their obvious influences. They could rock in the style of UFO, or Wishbone Ash, Thin Lizzy or even Diamond Head (who they toured with). Just listen to Losin Man and tell me that doesn't sound like the riff from Diamond Head's Shoot Out The Lights. Sadly, they only recorded a couple of singles and appeared on a few compilation albums, but what they did produce was, for the most part, spectacular.

What does the name Mendes Prey mean, who knows? Mark Sutcliffe, the guitarist of the band, doesn't even know. In an interview he stated, "I'm not sure I've ever known. I think it's lost in the mists of time." What an epic quote!
